LES Russia Seminar “Management and protection of IP in present environment”

LES Russia held the Seminar "Management and protection of IP in present environment”, moderated by Natalia Karpova, PhD, Professor, Vice-president of LES Russia, Russian Academy of National Economy and Civil Service (RANEPA).

The Seminar started with the joint presentation of

  • Natalia Karpova and Valery Antipin, Member of the Scientific-Industrial Cluster Working Group, on “Recent changes in Russian IP legislation"; The speakers analyzed the latest legislative changes in the field of IP and their impact on the legal relations development, and shared their suggestions and comments;
  • Natalia Polyakova, Head of the IP Department of the Center for Accounting and Analysis of Scientific and Technical Activities, State Corporation “Roscosmos”, made a presentation “IP management system of Roscosmos”. In her speech, Natalia highlighted a detailed and well-established system that has been operating in the corporation for a long time. The specifics of Roscosmos is working with secret objects and dual-use objects, therefore, the protection of IP objects is mostly carried as the "know-how". In addition, Ms. Polyakova gave her opinion on several controversial and problematic issues of IP rights;
  • Jennet Abduraimova, Head of IP Practice, Skolkovo IP Center, spoke on “Practice of IP management in the new realities”. Jennet focused on the benefits for the participants of Skolkovo education program, in particular on preferences for IT companies, on the difficulties of software export and ways of IP commercialization restructuring in current conditions, and specific ways of IP commercialization;
  • Vitaly Kalyatin, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Private Law Research Center, made the report “Problems of software use under modern conditions”. Vitaly pointed the problems of the withdrawal of foreign IT companies from the market, the lack of access to software products, pointed out the legal tools for using software, including open licenses;
  • Yuri Nechepurenko, Head of research and innovation department, Research Institute of physical and chemical problems, Belarusian State University, spoke on “Pharma market of the Republic of Belarus: patent and legal issues”. Yuri presented a detailed analysis of the pharmaceutical market of the Republic of Belarus, highlighted its advantages and prospects, and mentioned the problems of practice and legislation;
  • Sergey Vasiliev, Ph.D, Partner, Trademark Attorney, Gorodissky and Partners, ended the seminar with the presentation “Winding paths of parallel import”. Sergey highlighted the story of legal regulation of parallel import in Russia, commented ways and protection tools applied with parallel import. The speaker analyzed the key policies of Russian Supreme Court, Russian Constitutional Court, and the Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia regarding parallel import. Sergey also focused on the latest legislative changes in this field and gave examples of parallel import regulation in USA, Japan and EU.

The seminar gathered 36 listeners and was a great success.
